No Fuel Pressure; Pump or PEM?

I have a no-fuel-pressure problem. First I'm going to jump out the relay to assure that is not the culprit. Repair is trivial if it is the relay, just swap.
So, lets assume the realy is OK and I need to troubleshoot further.
How to i differentiate between a failed Fuel-Pump and a failed Pump-Electronics-Module? Is there a simple electrical test I can do with a multimeter? Is there a method (and is it OK) to put 12V directly on the pump to test it?

I'll answer my own question just for the archives ;-)
The answer is to do a simple functional test on the pump.
I pulled the pump out & found simple wiring with one terminal clearly marked "+". I set is up outside the car to test. Briefly touched 12V to the appropriate ground & + terminals. The pump made a good healthy squirt. I tried to block it off with a thumb & found the pressure much like water pressure in my house.
My conclusion was "pump is OK, must be a failed PEM. I bought a replacement on eBay and the car came back to life.
