Preventative Maintenance
 
As I stated in my previous post, I am a new owner of my first Volvo. I am looking to go ahead and address any common issues with my 2002 V70 2.4T. I just replaced the torque arm bushing on top of the motor and the previous owner just had the timing belt, tensioner and water pump replaced along with the brake pads and rotors. What are some common issues with this model of V70? Any input is appreciated, thanks.

The PCV system. Other than that just do what the manual recommends.

What all would you suggest to do to the PCV system? I've done a little research on it and haven't been able to find clear answers. I'm a newbie.

Just have it checked. If there is positive pressure from the dipstick, replace the breather box and clean the ports. If there is vacuum, nothing is needed at this time with regard to the PCV system

In addition to the service stated above, I have to add this... I worked on an 02 2.4T today that misfired under a load. It had a P0304, Cylinder #4 misfire, so I pulled the #4 ign. coil and plug for closer inspection. I also noticed coil #5 was new and found out from the owner that it had recently been replaced by another shop. They overlooked that the plugs were completely worn out. The gap was more than twice that of new spec.

131 thousand miles on the original plugs!:eek: That's just asking for coils to fail when they are forced to work so hard to keep firing, so the insulation starts breaking down. Electricity always follows the path of least resistance. I replaced all the plugs and one coil and it ran perfectly once again.

Moral of the story. Don't neglect the spark plug maintenance! They are a lot cheaper than ignition coils. This plug and coil replacement cost the guy $250. Had he replaced the plugs at some earlier time he could have saved himself hundreds of dollars in repairs.

I have a 2002 V70 2.4T.

Read up on the Asin Warner AW55 series transmission. It is notorious for issues if the right things are not done. I just had to replace mine....$4,000.....



Also, there was a recall on the fuel pump on some of these a few years back. Mine was one of them.

Finally, there is one relay in the rear of the car that controls the brake lights, and can impact the hazard lights and turn signal. Volvo sent out a tech service bulletin on this for certain vehicles, but even if yours wasn't included, go head and replace it with two separate relays.
