Is your car fully in park? try unlocking the shifter and row bottom to top a few times then get it to sit in park and retry. Have you tried a jump or measured battery voltage?

Weak battery was the first thing to come to mind here too.

How can a response to an opening post be time stamped 1 hr. 07 min. before the OP?

Yes, I've tried jump starting and also a new battery also jiggling the gear leaver all to no avail - still a mystery??

Is there a cut out that needs resetting?

well the shifter's PNP position sensor does integrate with the starter circuit but that's only one possible issue. Any sounds when you turn the key? (ie the starter solenoid clicks but doesn't engage ) cabling to the starter is another possibility, or it could be the starter itself. Did you check all fuses? (owners manual will show which fuses control the various circuits). I assume you are not getting any immobilizer warnings (but as a simple check, lock/unlock the doors 5x with the fob is one way to reset the immobilizer).

Was any engine work done? Could it be that cam or crank pos sensors are unplugged?
