Default V70 oil filter

I was trying to do my v70’s first oil change it’s a 2004 2.5t and I realized I needed a oil filter cup socket so I went to orilleys bought what they told me would work which was a 86/16 which Is what I also see to use online but I couldn’t fit it on my filter is it the wrong size, could that socket have been resold in the wrong packaging, where can I buy one that will work or what is the right size, and Is there a possibility the housing if a different size aftermarket?

Have you tried a band filter tool (smaller size). Dunno about the 04 V70s but there is enough room to use one on an 00 S40. What you may also want to do is shop at a Volvo friendly web site like IPD or FCP Euro to find a tool that is known to fit. Volvo does show the factory tool is an 86/16 so dunno if your housing is non-standard or if OR's gave you the wrong tool.

It's 165 days later.......
Did you ever resolve this small matter? More importantly, did you get your oil changed?

I use an old strap wrench with a bit of old belt to take up the slack.
Just nudge it a few degrees at a time but only need a few nudges before I can unscrew it by hand.
