Default Volvo VIDA / DICE

Just hooked up a VIDA / DICE to my 2002 V70 XC Country tonight for kicks. For anyone willing to fiddle with the SW installation (requires XP, won't work on Vista or Win 7, not sure exactly why), it seems like it'll be hugely valuable for diagnostic purposes. Not sure I'd try to program anything that could do serious damage with it, but to display engine, transmission, hvac, immobilizer, etc parameters, it should be handy.

Is it a bootleg copy from eBay? If so, software won't work anyway. But you can change any programmable parameters via Vehicle Communication without damaging anything.

Yep, that's the one. I gambled and gave it a try. SO much more information available than just DTC's or very limited freeze frame information.

Yeah, VIDA is a great tool. I'll probably buy one of those copies for side work.

I bought one of these about a year ago and its been a great tool to have. If you have the right version of Windows 7 it should work on there. After some fiddling around i got it to work on Win 7 just fine.
And as far as the programming goes, i haven't tried it, but i do not think that you can program with a bootlegged copy of VIDA.
where this tool comes in really handy is when you get a check engine light (or any other error codes) and you can check exactly whats wrong and it will give you step by step instructions on how to fix it.

I just got mine up and running. I purchased mine from autodiagnostictool on ebay. I was never able to get it to run on Win7 but after buying a Dell620 with XP SP3 it works good. It has some quirks with the pop-up windows but I been able to read and reset all the codes, re-program light delays, remove the after blow (annoys me to have a car that is doing stuff on its own, let it mold...)

I also reset the TCM so it shifts better.

Well worth it. Remember that it is also a service handbook in VIDA. its not only diagnostics.

this is not a reply - this is just another question:
I am considering buying a 2012A version of Vida Dice for XP Sp3 ( will have to buy a used laptop too...) from eBay ( China)
I really like the possibilities of seeing and changing set parameters...but my question is: I read on other forums you have to buy a license from Volvo to do some things. What THIS is all about?
thanks

Unless it is something that can simply be turned on or off via the VIDA/DICE and not need a reprogramming you would not have to pay Volvo anything. If something needs to be reprogrammed then you would have to purchase the programming from Volvo.
