01 V70XC door close sensor
I have had trouble with the right rear door close sensor. In message center, I get the message "right rear door open," and slamming the right rear door does not help. Locking and Unlocking does seem to help make the message go away.
Also I have had the alarm go off on a couple of occasions for no reason - maybe the door close sensor again? The problems (message appearing and alarm going off) seem to occur in warm weather when the right side of the car is in the sun.
My question - what part would be causing this problem? Would I likely need to replace the right rear door latch module?
Thanks!
Alex

Do the interior lights stay on when the door is closed? if the door closes fine and stays closed, I don't think it would be the latch. I'm not too familiar with the cross country's, but the lights would sometimes not turn off on my 240 wagon when i closed the doors. I know this sounds silly, but I unscrewed the peg on the inside of the door (the thing that if you push with your finger the interior lights flicker on and off) and sprayed some WD-40 and that fixed it right away. Maybe it's a little corrosion that's causing the problem with your sensor.

Thans for the reply. I dissasembled the door yesterday and put some dielectric grease on the connections to the latch / lock unit - we'll see how that goes. My backup plan is to figure out which two wires go to the door close sensor and just splice them together so that, as far as the car knows, the door is always closed.
The door does stay closed and latches firmly, but the interior lights do stay on. Maybe a similar issue to yours? I also put some 3-in-1 oil on the mechanical parts of the latch mechanism, figuring it couldn't hurt.

your welcome! and your idea of splicing the wires should work, but as a back up plan definitely. It's nice to have the interior lights on when its dark and your loading something on your back seat. You might want to take a look on ebay to see if you could actually find that sensor cheap and simply replace that. That 3-in-1 oil on the mechanical parts should lubricate them beautifully.
good luck with fixing that sensor!

Hi,
The problem has been happening again in hot weather. Can anyone tell me which color wires go to the door close sensor? From looking at the wiring diagram (which admittedly is not something I know how to read) it looks like there are circuits in there. I am concerned that splicing the wires will cause computer problems.
Ideally I would like to splice the wires for door close sensor so it shows as permanently closed, but I am beginning to think this is not possible.

I found the wires. Not sure I should recommend the repair to others as it disables the "door open" notification and dome light when that door is open, and could be a safety issue, especially for people with kids. For anyone who wants it, the wiring diagram is available at www.matthewsvolvosite.com.
