I replaced the front brake pads and rotors about about a month ago and the brakes now feel squishy.
Our XC70 was purchased a year ago and our daughter drove it until we heard scraping sounds from the front - but the pedal felt solid. I ordered Meyle semi-metallic pads and rotors from Ebay. The seller sent the wrong rotors so I was forced to use roughly cast Chinese rotors from O'Reillys and immediately thereafter the brakes felt squishy. Yesterday I discovered that one outer pad is in full contact with the rotor while only the inner edge of the facing inner pad touches the rotor. When you step on the brakes hard (and pedal WAY down) you can see the caliper twist and try to clamp properly. I don't know if this was an existing problem and the old pads had just worn-in to fit. The new inner pad now has a contact patch over about half its face so I'm tempted to let it wear in. But what's wrong and how to fix it?
Is/are the clips on the outside of the calipers installed? Installed correctly?
If they are not there or installed incorrectly the caliper will flex giving poor pedal feel and braking.

They are installed and the ends hooked into the caliper as I best remember. I was thinking the little rubber pads could cause the outer brake pad to be cocked? It's almost like the caliper bracket is cocked or one of the pads is not seated parallel to the rotor.
Seems like exact same problem. I remember I put the little rubber tube/pads under the caliper bracket rather that shift them toward the center where they would be visible.....
Hmmm #2. I found this photo of the correct installation and I'm almost sure the springs were originally installed wrong and I repeated the mistake. The intact old pad was worn with a lot of taper; the other side was metal/metal.
