Default Drive Shaft Boots

Just had my 2009 XC 70 3.2 back from a 120000 Km service. The shop told me that the rear drive shaft boots are leaking and require replacement. However they also told me that in order to replace thek they have to replace the whole drive shaft assembly - a peculiarity of the model.

Is this true? Is it possible that there is a way of obtaining the boots independent of the shafts and fitting them? Repair will be about 1000 GBP is not.

Grateful for any insight.

It appears to be true. I just looked up Vida for my 08 and sure enough there are no boots for the rears and it says they are not serviceable. I'm looking at $490 US a side when my time comes. I'm at 100k miles now and they look fine.

The fronts show only the outer joints serviceable with boots and the inners require a new axle.

I also found Volvo has a spray on protective wax for the boots. I think I will buy that right away.

Take the wheel of to see is the boot was cracked, if it's already leaked the protective wax have no used, the wax is to help the rubber pliable so it won't crack, not to seal the leak.
