I have a driveline whine on an XC70. It seems to be coming from the RH rear so I changed the RH rear hub bearing and switched the tires - no change.

I've never had this on an XC70 before.

The whine definitely gets louder when you let off the gas.

Any ideas?

 

From the diagnosis, it appears that we have some worn bearings. We will drop the rear differential and I might make a how to on this job.

 

Just FYI, we ended up replacing the rear differential. For whatever reason, the gears were worn and thus, the noise. All quiet now.
