Default New acquisition 2004 XC70

I've been driving 1980's MB diesel's for many years but my '85 wagon has just been retired. I just bought a very clean 2004 XC70 with one previous owner on 106,000 miles. The car was been regularly serviced by a local Volvo dealer based on the various repair stickers. The timing belt was changed 3,000 miles back and the most recent oil change was about that time. What do people suggest I go over get ready for the next 100,000 miles

Welcome!

I'm an original owner of 2004 XC70. We have had no unexpected repairs however be aware of the following:

1. Spark plugs are replaced every 60k miles
2. Cabin air filter at 15k miles or once a year. (corrected)
3. Verify all recalls have been completed such as fuel pump
4. Flush transmission fluid every 100k miles, sooner if you tow
5. Timing belt is completed at 120k
6. XC70's are hard on brakes. Factory rotors and pads will last approximately 30k miles. At the 60k miles, I decided to purchase ATE PremiumOne rotors and Hawk pads. Today my XC70 has 105k miles and have not had to replaced the pads or rotors
7. Synthetic oil changes at 5k miles otherwise you will experience the joys of the Flame Trap.
8. I've had mixed results with previous tire purchases (I've gone through 4 sets). Currently I have Michelins and I've loved them.
9. Air filter at 37.5k miles but to make it easy to remember, I replace every 30k miles. (corrected)
10. I've had to replace the passenger front and rear door actuator.
11. Gas cap door will fall off but repair is easy

In a nutshell, your owners manual will have the recommended service intervals. We have love our XC70! We get between 19 and 21 MPG in the city and high 20's to low 30's on the interstate.

Enjoy

Cabin filter is actually every 15,000 miles (depending on environment). Air filter is every 37,500 miles, but I would just replace as necessary. Brake fluid should be flushed every two years/ 37,500 miles.

Timing belts on the 2004 models are every 105,000 miles, not 120,000. But you just had it done so you're good.

Make sure the angle gear and rear differential aren't leaking, those are pretty common to leak.

I just verified the following information in the 2004 (USA / Canada) Warranty and Service Records Information. On page 61, timing belt, tensioner and idler pulley are replaced at 120k miles.

What engine does your XC70 have???

You are correct about cabin air filer. On page 64, it gets replaced every 15k miles or once a year based upon heavy traffic or dirty/dusty areas. Checking my records, I replace every 30k miles.

ES6T is correct, Next oil change visual inspect Bevel gear. If seeping, I would have it looked at.

All the information you are requesting will be in your 2004 (USA / Canada) Warranty and Service Records Information

My bad. 2003 is 105k, 2004 is 105k for some engines and 120k for others. The XC70 would indeed be 120k.
