Slight Surging, Engine Balking at 37-39 MPH, Stalling
Hi, Everybody,
The vehicle is a 2006 XC70 base, no sunroof, no heated seats, autobox, 160,000 miles. It is the GF's car, we use it for weekend errands.
This syndrome began several months ago. The speed limit is 40 and I am at 37-39 and it feels with steady pressure on the gas that I have just lifted off the pedal, over and over, but RPMs and road speed are constant.
Going up hill, at 37-39 the tranny wants to downshift, but the engine occasionally balks, last time the RPMs died down to 1,000 and then revved back up.
Later in the same trip, driving 37-39 on level ground, I started feeling the coasting or driving(?) feeling described above and then the engine stalled.
I waited five minutes and started the car and drove to GF's home.
Two years (2,500 miles) ago new plugs and coils.
No air leaks, no vacuum leaks, very nice idle, no oil consumption, always starts immediately.
I do not believe the fuel filter has ever been changed.
I am checking for codes tonight.
As far as I can tell, this is a fuel problem. I do not rule out checking pressure at the rail.
Thank you, all, for any suggestions, commiseration, advice.
Bill
