I have a '04 xc70 and I am cost to do a cost-analysis. I need a new transmission. I knew this about 4 years ago, but the car has been really good to me. If it is carrying a load or going up a steep hill, or there is a sudden acceleration, it gives me a sudden "CHUNK!" or sudden stutter.

Does anyone know a general idea of what this should/might cost? I am wondering if I am looking at 2k or 4k. Not sure if it matters where I am, but I am in Seattle.

I also need the rear bearings redone, so I will add to that - thinking that shouldn't be more than a couple hundred. Its the tranny I am concerned about.

 

The rebuild kit alone is about $300. Unless you have a manual and are an experienced builder.....
