Your "SOND" light refers to the "lambda-sond" system. (Lambda is that upsidedown y symbol thats probably?? on the same light) Why Greek letters in a Swedish car? Anyway, this indicates a problem with your O2 sensor. It plugs into your exhaust manifold.
The Sensor itself should be easy to change, but first I would take it to Volvo wrencher, who would know where to plug in the test equipment- the problem could be more involved.
Sorry I can't give you more specific info, but I never had THAT problem with my '84 DL. Plenty of others, believe me. I would also go to Autozone and get a Haynes manual- they're a good place to start for people like us that learn the hard way.
Good luck!

A bad O2 sensorwould surely give you an erratic idle and also poor preformance.

If your car it that old your radiator could be clogged!!!! The tiny little cross flow tubes that go from one side to the other can get clogged up with white deposits. With out proper flow through the radiator, your engine tempwill run very high. Recommend you remove the radiator and take it to a radiator shop and have them flow test it to see if it flows the proper GPM.

Let us know how it turns out.

not to be an *** but i think he said the radiator was new.....?.... but i like the idea of making sure all the coolat hoses are good and clean 8]. perhaps you have some attached to your turbo?..

another idea. get your engineblock flushed too. maybe there is some deposits inside the engine itself.
