Default 1989 240 dl wagon radio

for the 1989 vovlvo 240 wagons, are there known electrical problems? i am using an aftermarket radio with the old harness but the power will cut off and on and there will be a poping sound coming from my speakers. any ideas? also if i were to put a brand spanking new system with 4 speakers and 2 subs, would it be better to just completly bypass using a wriring harness and directly connect everything running my own wires myself?

thanks

I would hook up all new power and ground wires and use the stock speaker wires.

Check the fuse and make sure the connections are clean and good.
