Best place for switched, constand power in S70?
I'm installing my handsfree phone kit and I'd like to know the best place to splice for the swtiched and constant power source. I know there's lots of them, but I'd like the one least likely to cause problems (blowing fuses, and also ease of installation). I saw that there's an accessory plug provided by Volvo, but I don't think it has a constand source. Any opinions?
Haha, I should just email you instead of posting. In my last car I used an "Add a Fuse" in the power door locks because it was high amp and rarely used, what do you think?
I would but I use it a lot and I'm not sure if it's meant to be used for running 2 things at once. I'll start with the fuse box and see what's available. Thanks.
I tested the accessory plug today and pin 1 is constant, 2 is switched (I think the book calls it "X"), and pin number 9 is a ground. This is perfect for anyone adding a phone kit, or radar detector or whatever.
accessory plug = cigg lighter if there isn't an actual lighter in the soccet. Keep in mind that the accessory plug is fused for 12 volts (20 amps) worth of accessories. a radar detector maybe pulls a volt? A phone charger...perhaps two volts? Most accessories have in line fuses in there power cords at some point. For a phone charger, it's usually in the plug on the other side of the LED light. Same for radar detectors. So a good way to check the draw on your soccet is to add up the amps represented on the respective fuses. If you're under 20 amps, you're golden.
of course, you should probably check to see what else is running off the cigg lighter/accessory soccet fuse. there might be a dome or door light tied in with it too...or something. At any rate...Walmart, Target or Radio Sack sells accessory expanssion kits that'll give you 3 or 4 more soccets...if you don't feel like ripping appart the cords.
