Would the 850 stereo be considered a double din? Double din would fit perfectly?

Yes the 850 radio is a DD (DoubleDin). So any DD (DoubleDin) aftermarket radios should fit.

Or you can go with a SD (SingleDin) and get a metra or whatever they call it POCKET to fit above the radio or under it.

 

Does this mean that the v70R (sc-901) also used a DD structure?

 

i installed a dual double din touch DVD in my 96 850 and had to do a lil modifying to the inside of the dash.. pretty much just filed down the runner on each side and then the unit slid right in. the stock unit went back in fine as well
