Non-ipod MP3 player use
Greetings, fellow Volvo Owners!
I would like to be able to use my Creative Labs Nomad Xtra (40 gig) MP3 player in the V50. I have asked the parts person at the dealership and I asked the Swedes when I picked up the car in Sweden. Each pointed to the other.
I understand that the tuner is in the back of the car. Before I go tearing my new car apart, I would like to gain an education.
Is an FM Modulator the only option with this slim head unit or are there other options? I have the upgraded head unit with the 6 disc player.
If I need to tear apart my new V50, what is the best shop manual for the job?[sm=dontgetit.gif]
Yikes!
Thank you,
Gregg

RE: Non-ipod MP3 player use
There's a new option out there for external devices (XM, Sirius, MP3 etc) where FM Modulation is the only option. You can achieve a "Direct" connection by jacking into the antenna outlet on the back of the radio. I can't remember exactly where I saw the part, I'm sure a quick google would turn it out.

Yes. I've done this before an a number of cars where that was the only option. However, the radio in the V50 is "unique" to say the least. I don't think the Antenna plug is on the head unit. I understand that the tuner is in the rear of the car, Rider's side. That is where I would need to attach the FM Modulator. I have looked into a few FM Modulators and will be getting one with PLL Circuit Design.
I have spoken to folks at the Volvo dealership and people at the Volvo Factory in Sweden, face-to-face and nobody seems to know or care. Since I have over 500 albums in my MP3 collection, I don't want to be limited to listening to 6 CDs or constantly creating "road trip" collections.
