I am looking at OEM Head Units for my '96 960 Station Wagon. The current head unit is a SC-811 and I just installed new speakers yesterday due to audio fading in and out. I find out that the speakers are not the problem, and its the head unit. I am looking on Ebay right now and found a few SC-811s, I just want to make sure that the head unit actually contains the amplifier and I don't have to find any more parts to get all 4 speakers to play.

Is there any place to get info on this or the SC-811 specifically?

If you can gain access to the back of the receiver you will see either one plug of wires (premium - the audio is sent through a din cable to an amp) or two plugs of wires (base - the wires power the speakers directly). Also, while back there jiggle the wires to make sure the connections are solid. Maybe you will get lucky and find that its just a loose cable.

 

any specs on the amp? how much power it provides? now I'm interested.
