Question 2016 XC90 Hybrid T8 engine can't start, dealership says it's AC compressor problem

2016 XC90 Hybrid T8 model. purchased in 2016 September, now it's just 2 months past the 4-year factory-warranty. I am out of warranty right now.

This week, the car suddenly can't start after it was parked for ~10 minutes in a parking lot, its battery looks fine. After turn on the engine ****, the panel keeps displaying "press pedal, turn on the ****", "check parts", and repeat again "press pedal, turn on the ****"... Following the instructions displayed on the panel doesn't start the engine, the panel doesn't show meaningful diagnostic information either.

Towed to a Volvo dealership service department, they charged $460 for diagnosis, later informed me that: it's the Air Conditioner (AC) compressor's problem that prevents the car engine from starting, has to replace the Air Conditioner's compressor in order to have the engine start. And, it costs $2600 to replace the AC compressor.

I am confused, why the AC compressor would even prevent the car engine from starting? Can't the car run without using the AC?

Can someone help?

Are you in the US? I think the compressor is covered by the extended hybrid components warranty if you are.
