Cam cover removal

I am replacing the head gasket, timing belt, and water pump on my daughters 2005 S40. I’ve got the timing belts off and am now trying to remove the cam cover. Nothing has gone easy thus far.
Short question... is there a trick to getting the cover off? I think I counted a total of 42 bolts that hold the cover in. This think is just not coming loose.
I’ve read on another forum to use a soft headed hammer (rubber mallet) but not budging. Is there a way to use the press tool used to compress this cover while reinstalling it, to pull it? If that made any sense.
I’ve tried rubber mallet. I’ve tried a wood block and a bigger happier. I’ve looked for a way to “pry” it loose but no luck. I don’t care to screw it up.
Im guessing using that press tool to keep the cover from flying when the anerobic sealer lets loose wouldn’t be a bad idea. Any suggestions on how to loosen the sealer up?
Thanks in advance!
Randy
