Any input on a cure for dim headlights both high beam and low.can after market headlights with the euro look be purchased?

Hi Spanky and welcome to the site.

Lights should not be dim, check your charging system. If that's not it maybe you can purchase brighter bulbs or get a different pair.

Also check your reflectors. They sometimes get "desilvered" from moisture getting in the assembly. (That PITA cover and gasket really do have a purpose!)

 

I had the right side headlight out today the silver reflector looke good. I will try the new sylivina silverstar bulbs and see what happens.

 

I like those, but they do burn out quicker. Try and remember to turn your switch to the middle position during the day, keep a spare or two in the trunk.

 

Hi New to forum. Do most of my own work.

I have a 98 V70 AWD with same issue. To solve this I took the assemblies out, took apart the assembly so that you have the white plastic part that holds the bulbs. Clean this assembly with small amount of acetone to remove any oils. Don't use to much as it removes the existing coating. Just a quick rub down.

Get a can of aluminum paint. Got a can from ACE Hardware for about $6. With NO bulbs in the reflective unit spray the aluminum on the whole reflective face including edges so it looks nice when installed. Let dry for a couple of hours.

reassemble the head light. And there you go Bright as could be.

Work great for me.

Check for loose connectors that may cause dimming.

 

Can someone point out where the diagnostic test port is on a Volvo V70 1998?
I'm told it's behind the drivers headlight and after having a look it could be a number of things, but I don't want to pull on the wrong thing. Can someone describe it, or point me to a picture of it? Thanks

 

The OBD1 connector was behind the HL; yours is OBD2 and is inside under ashtray if i remember..

 

Connector is located under the console arm reset. Open the armrest door and Lift off the little gray tab at the front of the compartment and see the connector just under it.
