Hi, I lost my last key fob and want to know if theres anyway around going to a dealer or locksmith? I found new sealed ones at Amazon for $88 and want to know if theres a way I could program it myself? Like which programmer tool do I need to use or do I even need one? Also, could I reprogram a used one from a different car of the same year and model? It's a 2011 C70. Thanks.

 

Yes you can do it yourself. You will need a subscription from Volvotechinfo.com for 3, 30, or 365 day VIDA access. Also a Genuine DICE unit is needed to interface between your compatible cpu and the car. I've read recently where the cheap clone dice units no longer work with a VIDA subscription. You should be able to spend less than an hour "programming" the new key. That's after you spend several hours registering, activating and setting up VIDA. Then maybe a few more hours learning how to use VIDA. You could find a large independent Volvo shop that has or purchases VIDA subscriptions as needed. They might charge a little less - but The dealer usually does not charge for the subscription fees, and as an independent with a subscription I had to pass those fees along to the customer - making a download at my shop cost almost as much as the dealer.

As far as I know you cannot reprogram a used key to work.
