I am experiencing an anomaly - on startup, the monitor screen has remained off (black). After shutdown and restart the screen recovers and works normally. This has happened twice. On another occasion, I had no control of Climate Control. This happened once. My guess is it is something between the stop/start switch and a computer. The fact the anomaly occurs in two different systems suggest the computer and not the stop/start switch. I don't want these occurrences happening to the point the systems do not recover so I am having my local dealer troubleshoot but I thought I'd put this out there in case anyone else has experienced this.

you may need an icm. Unless any liquids were spilled. codes need to be read with VIDA.

No liquids, no abuse of any kind, normal ambient temps. We will be leaving it with the dealer for troubleshooting. I posted because I wanted to see if anyone else had a similar anomaly.

not so common but I've seen it on a few. Specially 11-12 but software would fix those.

As suspected. Thanks. The dealer is prepared to troubleshoot and seems to be on top of it. We are leaving the car for a week while we are away. I will post any results as info for the group.

Report on display anomaly - near certain the system is voltage-sensitive. We discovered the battery was failing. Since new battery, anomaly no longer occurs which tends to confirm my analysis about voltage. Looking back on the events, my opinion is, once the alternator brought the old battery above the voltage threshold that would satisfy system operating requirements, we regained the display.

The Volvo XC70 is one of the finest vehicles we have owned. We are extremely happy with our choice. I think Volvo made a mistake when they decided to discontinue offering it in the states. We are not impressed with the XC60 and are a bit chagrined about the cost of a new XC90.
