400 HP Brick!!!
Well, A few of you know that I recently added a new Volvo to the family. I am pretty much "up in the air" as to what I am going to do with it and yesterday I had a thought of turning the car into a super sleeper - BEAST! It has a very clean interior, smooth body (needs the roof painted), and seems to only need some rutine maintenance to get it running good.
I have always dreamed about getting a old 240 wagon and making it the ultimate sleeper. But as we all know, the older a car gets, the harder it is to find parts for it to keep it on the road. Unique cars suffer the same fate. So I'd like to creep forward and find out what you guys think... It doesn't really matter to me what kind of Volvo I turn into a sleeper because the general public doesn't think of these older bricks as being REAL FAST, even the turbo ones. What ever I do, I do NOT plan to mod the exterior to blow my cover, just what's under the hood, brakes, and suspension.
Please help me decide a little by taking the poll. I could keep the car I have, the S90, and work on it. The thing I like about it is that it has a larger I6 which is suppose to be a smoother operating engine. And boosting it up to about 400 HP shouldn't be as hard, and it may take the torture better. I could swap it for a 960/S90 wagon that could add to the sleeper effect. I can get a 850 Turbo wagon and try working with it. The thing that makes me hesitate working with a 850 is that it's front wheel drive, less room to work on it and more torque/mount problems up front. I could also get a 240 wagon and beef it up.
Please hit the poll and don't hesitate of adding remarks to share your opinion.

If you want power, go with RWD. Are you thinking 400hp or 400whp? I think 400whp might be difficult unless you're looking to spend quite a bit. Obviously you'll have to find one with a turbo. I would go with the 960, but they didn't turbo those in the US, but I have heard they are easy to turbo. There is one on youtube that is about 656whp so it's doable. It's all about how much money you want to throw at it.

Cost, ouch! That is always a factor when faced with everyday living and playing with toys. When I seen the youtube videos of guys drifting over powered Volvo's it made me dream a little more.
Maybe I can send Paul or Dave a letter asking them to sell me their wagon and be done with it. Blue book on a '97 960 is about $3k right?

The thing I like about the 960 is the luxary options. Quiet, better seats, nicer options, etc. I'll wait this out longer but the more I think about it the more I like the newer 960.
It really is a shame that people has undone the master pieces that Paul had put together. Maybe someone still has Pauls and it can be purchased.

I do not have links handy. I posted the story on a Mustang forum a while ago and got the story about the car with at the time e-bay links and all.
