Default '91 240 not starting easily

My 240 has a strange problem... sometimes it starts right up, sometimes it does not. 9 times out of 10, it will crank and crank but not catch, and when it finally does catch I have to keep the idle up so that it doesn't stall, and I do this until it warms. Once warm, no problems with the idle at all. I can then go to work and after it sits all day (9+ hours) I go to start it and it starts right up! Once the initial start up happens for the day, I can restart as many times as needed throughout the day and have no problems. But come next day, the process starts all over again.

It seems like some kind of signal wiring in the cold start circuit loop maybe? Please, any advise! This has become more than annoying.

Reading up on the problem, looks like the fuel pump relay and/or the crank position sensor may be a culprit. How could I test these out?
