91 740 2.3 No Start
I have searched and read quite a bit on this forum and haven't been able to figure this car out. It isn't my car, so I don't know all the history. However, I put my FYI hat on and sorted through a bunch of receipts and have been able to figure out the following:
The car was running last year. It was at a repair facility which changed the battery, thermostat, leaking fuel lines, alternator belt, timing belt, fuel pump and regulator, OD solenoid and water pump. When it was running it would not idle correctly and would stall then not start. It also had codes 132 (battery voltage too low or high), 223 (circuit fault to or faulty IAC) and 231 (fuel trim too lean or rich at part load). All of that I can look at once I get it running.
Current state:
Car turns over but will not start. I have a fully charged battery and it meets specifications. There is no spark from the coil. I pulled the plugs, distributor cap and rotor. The plugs I replaced. There is oil leaking into the distributor and the inside of the cap is wet. I don't know Volvo so I don't know if there is a seal I can replace or if the distributor requires replacement. The cap and rotor will be replaced.
From my search and reading, I understand the coil, igniter, crank position sensor, fender relays, the ignition control module (not sure where it is), associated wiring or something else could be the culprit.
I'm just not sure how to proceed. Of course the distributor oil leak needs to be corrected, but then what? Suggestions about where to begin and how to test some of the above mentioned components would be greatly appreciated.
