Default 96 850 No heat in the dead of winter? AHHH!

I just got my Volvo a few months ago at the beginning of winter. I have had heat and defrost until just the other day. When I put the heater on there is a little bit of a sound...maybe like a motor trying to do something, it is very faint. The heat does not come on at all though. No heat, no defrost, no comfort...yuk![:'(] There is no fan. When I drive on the highway, after a while,a bit ofheat will come through the vents, but it is not being pushed through by a fan or anything. As soon as I slow down the heat is gone again. Has anyone had this happen. I read some other forums similar and think I have a pretty good idea about what needs to be done. I just wanted to ask for your advice as well. Thanks I look forward to what you have to say.

Angie, The first thing I would check would be your fuse panel. The fan should be working with or without heat. I also would think your heater should operate when the fresh/recycle switch is on fresh air. If not Heat hose's?, Heatercore? I just start with the fuse box.

My vote is blower motor and or resistor. They are very common to go bad.

I just had the same issue last month with my 850. It turned out to be the blower resister behind the glove box. I got a used one from a junk yard for $20. It probaly takes about 30 minutes to replace.
