Default ABS BCM TroubleShooting Help....

I'm a Proud first time owner of a 2004 Volvo S80 T6 (2.9L V6 w turbo) .....
Also has the DSTC option .....?

Anyways about my problem that I'm trying to solve .....

I bought the car knowing it had and abs light on .... (never been an issue on
my other cars with the light on)...
Anyways as I'm driving I realize that the Odometer isn't moving, now this is a issue .....
(the speedometer works fine)
I did check the cars on board display to check for set codes in the different
modules ... always comes up BCM not checked....

I already checked and replaced fuses ....

where's the next place to check
any help or info will be appreciated ..

thank you

I have looked into this again, it seems that this code you have would probably relate to possibly something more serious than the brake sensor in the servo as i first imagined. The code P0571 seems to relate to volvo DTC 'ECM-9400'

This is the information for this code:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ECM-9400 Brake pedal sensor. Faulty signal, B5234T3.

Condition:
If the engine control module (ECM), with engine running, registers a malfunction on the brake pedal sensor's circuit, the brake light switch circuit, or on the CAN-communication between the brake control module (BCM) and the engine control module (ECM), the diagnostic trouble code is generated.

Substitute Value:
Cruise control switched off.

Possible Source:
Signal too high:
Look for the cause of the malfunction in the brake control module (BCM) and in the central electronic module (CEM).

Incorrect signal:
Malfunction in brake control module (BCM) or in central electronic module (CEM).
Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections between the engine control module (ECM) and the brake light switch.
Open circuit in the voltage feed to the brake light switch.
Open circuit or short-circuit to ground or voltage in the cable for the brake light switch.
Incorrectly installed brake light switch.
Incorrectly adjusted brake light switch.
Water in the connectors.
Damaged brake light switch.

Signal missing:
Look for the cause of the malfunction in the brake control module (BCM) and in the central electronic module (CEM).

Fault symptom[s]:
Cruise control does not function at all.
Brake light constantly on.
Message in information display

I just hope it's as simple as a bad relay/s or a bad connection ....

If it's BCM sure I can repair...

hope this helps

First I will test the A and B relays in the CEM , I doubt that they are bad ,
but it's the next thing in line to be checked....

My mechanic got the chip he needed for his Snapon scanner tool so he can hopefully
give me an idea what's going on ..... still think it may be a CEM issue and not a
Brake control Module ,now when I arm the car alarm the side markers don't do the flash
telling that the alarm is armed but red light still flashes ,,,,,,,,,,,

What mess of a Car did I get myself into?

and will; give you an update on the results .....
feel free to ask questions or add input

the Brake control module repair was an epic fail , 1: dremel tool died ,...
2: once I got the top off the module , realized that there was some circuit damage...
like water got into it some how,,,

so I bought used one on ebay ... matched the number and made sure they took returns,,,
unit only cost $120 , hopefully I don't need to reprogram it

After checking on ebay and checking on prices , I think I'm just going
to purchase my own VIDA tools and reprogram myself , the cost of the tools
and software are around the same price for reprogramming service,

I will give yinz an update once I receive the tools

Hi e.mence440,

Sounds like you dived in deep trying to fix this. Any update?

I did end up going to the dealership, but still interested in finding the software. I don't want to go to the dealership Everytime I need a update.

I bought a DiCE clone made in China from Ebay and then paid for a VIDA subscription at the Volvo bookstore. $70 for the tool which is now mine, $67 for a three day subscription to VIDA diags. Additional $$$ if you want to download and install software updates.
I thought it was worth every penny.
BTW - I am doing the debug on the BCM right now for the infamous "Stop Safely" message. ABS on, no cruise or odom, etc.
Xemodex has a great debug flowchart on their website for each different module they sell.
