Default To change trans fluid or not to change

On the S60 I did change the fluid by using the suck some out - put some in and drive for a few days / weeks method. I did that several times. That cars meter shows several hundred thousand on it and the fluid change was somewhat --- a little little bit noticeable. There were no problems before the change and I did it as a just in case. Messy job draining a bit and refilling.

I have a 2007 V50 T5 AWD with 106,000 miles on it. Shifts fine but I still have 3/4 of a case of 3309 and was thinking of using the same method I used on our S60.

One time I test drove a V50 that had horrible shift flare and once you have that disease it is not going away. So my idea is to change the fluid as a precaution and prevention against any future problems such as shift flare.

So I am asking for a consensus -- change it or don't change it.

If the transmission is not shifting properly, you can run an oil tanker's load of transmission fluid through the thing and not improve the shifting. Unless it is low on oil or the fluid is so burned that it has formed into sludge, the shifting is controlled electronically.
