Default Coolant Flush 2015 XC60

Hello is a coolant flush part of normal routine maintenance? Owners manual states specifically "Normally the coolant does not need to be changed." But both my Volvo dealer and independent repair shop are recommending a coolant flush. Do most people do this every 20-30K miles assuming driving under normal conditions? Thank you.

There is no specified interval but coolant does wear out over time or become dirty. Generally speaking, a flush every 3 or 4 years is a good idea.

Volvo recommends an anti-corrosion agent / test of the antifreeze rating every 20K miles - you'd get the same with a drain fill with new factory spec coolant. If you decide to do a flush don't use anything stronger than distilled water.

I'd venture to say, only a small percentage of people bother to flush their radiators every 20K.
