Derivatives / Specs
Hello everyone
I need to buy a car and I would buy a volvo (just because I like them). Due to limited budget it is going to be an older one (probably built around 2000). I am interested in a sedan/saloon so it would probably be an S series. However, I still didn't decide on the exact model/derivative I am looking for and I would appreciate if some could explain what is the difference between the standard versions and T, T4/5 and SE.

RE: Derivatives / Specs
Thank you for your quick answer.
I notice that the 850 was discontinued in 1997 which means that I could only get a 9 years old car. Is that still reliable? I know I can't expect too much from a limited budget but I would like to give it a try and I was thinking of a 2000 one trying to find the best compromise between price and age in the lines of my budget. Also I notice that the S70 was discontinued in 1999.
I do like the C70 a lot but I was trying to avoid it because that seems to be the most expensive model.
Also, could you tell me how is S70 better than the S40?
I guess I am not looking for size, I would like a good engine, reliability (as good as I can get in a 7 year old car) and high specs (all the gadgets I could get for comfort)
Cheers,
Dani

RE: Derivatives / Specs
The S70 is basically an updated 850, body is very similar, and i do believe the engines are almost the same. In 99 they switched from regular cable throttle body to a ETM which is electronically controlled. I own an S80 and everyone says they had problems with it, i havent. I would shoot for some sort of warranty on the car, depending on milleage. try to get a car with all the records so you can see when major stuff was done, timing belt, fuel filter.... and so on. also if your looking at a 99 or newer find out about the etm. it costs around 1200 to 1500 to get it fixed on the S80 at a dealer. cant quote on a S70 but cant be too far off. i have heard all the good stuff on a C70. it has lots of parts for modifications and looks gourgeous..... prolly my next car with a HPT and a 5speed. If your spirited look for a turbo because it is a blast to drive with. hope i helped. keep an update
