Hi I'm new to the forum and I would like some opinions I have a 850 body a little rough but not bad 180xxx miles.i have a chance to buy a 1988 Volvo 740 83xxx miles excellent shape my question is would I be taking a big chance buying a car that old? Thank you.

Two thoughts - first of all the 700/900s are among the most reliable cars ever made, regardless of brand. Good parts availability, straight forward design. Second, cars with super low mileage may need to be researched - did the Odometer break? did the car get stored (why only 3K a year miles)? Rubber parts do age with or without use so a 25 yo car 80K miles may not map to a repair free car - so you should do all the research on maintenance history as you would if the car had 200K miles.

Thank you for your input.l never thought of it that way I always looked for the very lowest mileage cars. It makes sense that a car that old could be a lot of other things wrong,that's why I put it on the forum I wasn't sure.Like I said before my 95 850 is stage 0 great car I was just temtded by this one. Thanks again for you help.
