Help, I need your help in making a decision
Hi all, I am new to this site, and have had great success in other forums (jaguar and Honda goldwing) I do not own a Volvo at present but looking. First my predicament. I live in a small town of 9000, so options are limited without travel. I own one four wheel drive vehicle which I drive, and my wife drives a Jaguar xk8. The problem? SNOW, the Jag will not move in it. We are looking for a car that will do well in snow, as well as provide exceptional comfort on long trips, since we travel a lot. I have owned two Volvos in the past, 240 and 850, loved them both. The 240 we lost in a house fire and the 850 was stolen. My question, what would you recommend. We have a possibility at a 2000 s80 t6 locally with 70500 miles. I can pick it up for 3500 to 3000, but going to try for 2500. I like the car however, I did research on this vehicle and nearly 90 percent is DO NOT BUY, and constant repairs. What is everyone's impression on this car? I appreciate and respect all your suggestions, even if you recommend a different Volvo or year. Thank you very much in advance, and hope to visit/contribute more soon.

Hi Saved, welcome to VolvoForums. I don't think the S80 is such a bad car (except for the '99 S80, IMO it's worse car Volvo ever sold). It is a large FWD and getting old. </p>
You have owned a 850 so you know how comfortable those are. I like wagons now that I finally got one. I think the V70's are great comfortable cars. If you can get a '03 or newer model I think you'll be happy with the AWD models. Also the S60 AWD models. The pre '00 AWD systems had high failure rates as well as the '00 - '02 trannies in the S60 & V70's. So, going with a post '02 cars will keep it on a good note for you, especially if you don't have a good place for Volvo service close.

Your jag story made me laugh/smile. In 03 I bought a jag xjr and quickly realized it was a two season vehicle. Regarding volvo, I've an 98 xc70 awd which is the best vehicle in snow that I've ever owned. It now has 205k miles and runs great. Lot of info/experiences on awd trans failure, but mine has done well. If snow is an issue, it really is a tank which goes through it all in that regard. Good luck!
