Exclamation Help! Is the Volvo S70 dependable?

Hello, I'm looking to buy a Volvo, but don't know too much about them. A guy I met is selling a '98 S70 GLT with 190,000 miles on it for 3,000.00, the car is in great physical shape both inside and out. Can anyone tell me if these cars are reliable or not? I've read articles on the internet some which praise the car and others that flame it. If anyone could tell me about the car's known weaknesses and its strengths it would be greatly appreciated.

My advice...BUY IT!!! I own a '98 S70 GLT too, but it has 130,000 miles and still runs great. All GLT's have a turbo, so you have to baby the engine a little bit more. The suspension is sport tuned. Go to Carfax or whatever and check on all the tune-ups the owner has done to it. If the owner hasn't already had it done, replace the timing and serpentine belts, water pump, and distributor cap. I love my S70. They are EXTREMELY reliable. Let me know if you want to know anything else.

Yes, those are very reliable cars! I own a 1997 850 and the S70 was the replacement of my car in 99. Well made and very reliable.... I would look over the service history to make sure it is upto date on it, but GREAT Cars!

Also, remember that a car is only as reliable as it is serviced too!

Hey thanks for the advice guys! Took me a while to check back but my new GLT has been taking up all my time! I absolutely love this car. In response to you Blaze the car has had both the engine mounts and turbo hoses replaced in the last 6-12 months. The timing belt was swapped out at 105,000 miles which seems to be the norm for these cars. And for sure Somthngfrce I could not agree more with your philosophy. Thanks for the input guys.

You're welcome. If you ever have more questions, let us know. By the way, I'd also look at the Volvo Forums resources thread for cool aftermarket stuffs.
