Default How to jack the rear of a rear wheel drive 240?

Hello there,

I'm new to the world of Volvo as I have just traded my longtime love (the Buick Century) for a '91 240 wagon. It has rear wheel drive, which I'm not used to, and I'm not too confident on where to put the jack to raise the rear end so I could put my jack stands on the jacking points on the side rails by the rear tires. I know a lot of people say you can go ahead and raise it by the differential, but I've also heard a lot of people say that you can cause a good amount of wrong-doing when raising by the dif, like rotating it out of position, cracking the case, or putting too much weight on the axle casing. I would very much appreciate some input on this basic question so I can quickly and safely get under my *** to drop the fuel tank and work on the moaning rear brakes (my car sounds like a freakin' semi stopping).

Thank You For Reading,

~kurdtpatton~

If you look under the back door area you should see a slot with a stud in it. The top of the jack hooks on that stud if no one has destroyed it.

Thanks, but as I stated, that's where I was gonna put my jack stands cause they fit perfect there. unless you have a better idea on jack stand placement?

Jackstand placement should be closer to the wheels. Post in the 240 section, I'm sure someone will be able to help you there.
