Default Ignition Coil - Covered/Uncovered under CPO

Hello,

Hoping to get some insight from someone more knowledgeable. I own a 2015.5 S60 R design. It is a CPO and still covered (under the old 7 year one). On Tuesday, my car died and the dealer was finally able to diagnose what the issue is. Service advisor said that I needed 1 ignition coil and spark plugs. Gave the go ahead. But now, I’m trying to figure out if the ignition coils are covered under the warranty. My car is around 90,000 miles and every service was at a Volvo dealer. Spark plugs were replaced at 70,000. I know that spark plugs are not covered because it says so clearly on the paperwork, but if ignition coils are not listed. Service advisor says that the ignition coils are not covered. Also would like to add, that the car is at another Volvo dealer not the selling Volvo dealer if that helps. Don’t mind paying, but if it’s possibly covered, I’d rather not. I can also post the page of the CPO warranty that shows what’s not covered. Thank you!

I think you are right, having said that, a bad coil and spark plugs is pretty much what some Volvo dealers say immediately after "Good Morning!". And I've never heard of a car flat out dyeing from one bum coil, unless of course if all the spark plugs died at the exact same moment that would explain it (I hate it when that happens).
That all said, I think you are right, it should be covered, and and I would seriously doubt the honesty of someone who told me my 20 k plugs were bad. I could be wrong about this guy, but I doubt it.
If your previous dealer seemed on the up and up, I'd drag the car there if possible, I'd also call Volvo USA about the coverage but even if you force these guys to cover it I bet they find that thingamobob is bad or you have old air inn your tires needing a fresh air transplant or the like.

Your profile didn't state where you live, and I don't like posts about slamming individual dealers, but do you live in Dallas by any chance?

Thank you for your reply donf!

I'm in NJ. The last several maintenance intervals were done at the dealer that my car is currently at and the service advisor did confirm they replaced spark plugs back at 70,000. I was questioning in my head why they would have gone bad so fast, but your explanation (if that's what happened to my car) makes a lot sense. Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about the dealer that my car is at currently, well except for now, and the selling dealer. Both are about the same in customer service and work quality. I just go to to this dealer because it's closer to my home than the selling. Wish I could bring it to the selling dealer. I'll be picking my car up from them this morning, but will try and press the issue that the ignition coil should be covered. Will post an update.

Hope it works out, I used the same dealer and indie guy for years in Ft Worth, very happy. Moved to Dallas 9 years ago and it's been a nightmare. The plastic thing under the radiator / front part of engine fell off on the highway a few years back. While I'm waiting for my adb=visor to get off the phone I hear the guy next desk over tell a woman her plugs and a coil were bad.
With a CPO you are kinda stuck, but if nothing is going to be covered......the next day I get a car - I need plugs and a coil to fix that "rough running problem". Never noticed it beg=fore and it didn't run better after words,
I'd find a good independent Volvo shop
