Keeping my 240 but looking for another reliable volvo
Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum. Just looking for some advice/input on purchasing another Volvo. I have had my 1993 240 wagon for 9 years and love the hell out of it. It's got about 220,000 miles on it now and still running strong. I am going to hold on to it but would like another reliable wagon. I know you guys are probably wondering why I would want something else. My parents gave me the 240 the day I turned 16. After nearly a decade of driving it I just need a change, something different so I can switch back and forth between the two.
I'm looking for another wagon made before 2000. I really like the look of the 850 series. What can anyone suggest? Are there any other models and years that are as reliable as the 240 series? Or anything that comes close?
Any input is appreciated
Thanks!

Hi there,
Volvo loyalist.
Why don't you look at the volvo SUV instead of the wagon. you will have a much bigger space and a completely different ride, not to mention the advanced technology the car has compared to the wagons of the last decade or so.
I am also a volvo loyalist. I have a 1998 S70 2.5T, 80.000 Km. and an 2008 XC 90 3.2 AWD. 25.000 Km. Both cars are in mint condition. No major issues in any other than routine tune ups.
Try an XC 90 2.5T AWD 2005-2006 you will fall in love. It has the reliable volvo 5 cylinder turbo engine you will find on the 850 and the S70 and the trouble free Aisin-Warner transmission, it is heavy and safe, understated and looks good. you will love the 2 rear folding seats if you opt for the 7 seater version. Many of my friends have put 100s of thousands of kilometers on them with no major issues to mention.
Mind you there is nothing as reliable as the 240s. You will face some electrical problems in the XC 90 once in a while, engine mounts, bushings, etc. but nothing serious if you find the right low mileage one.
Why don't you give it a try
Good Luck, volvo for life.
