Looking for some advice...
My Dad's 1998 Mercury Sable GS died or at least we think it is dead. Our car suddenly got real hot and it almost went into the red. It has never done this before. Logically my dad thought it was the thermostate, so he had the mechanics replace that. Then when they went to flush it there was some sort of blockage either in the radiator, or engine, and they could not flush it. They did not however try to back flush it.[sm=headbang.gif] So they called us and said that the engine is possibly blown, and that they will give us $800 towards a car on their lot. Right now we are having someone else look at the Sable, but my parents, with my help, are thinking about getting a new to us car. That is if they cannot fix the Sable. So me being a Volvo owner[sm=badbadbad.gif], I immediately started looking at used Volvos. My mom will be using it mostly. She is an senior lecturer at Herron School of Art at IUPUI, so she will need some cargo room for her art work and her student's assignments. I have comprized a list of the vehicles I am going to show her and I was wondering if I could get your opinions. She wants something with simi low miles but as cheep as she can. Also she wants something that will not fall apart on her within the first 6 months of owning it as well as something with a good amount of horse power.

If you're looking for both cargo space and horsepower, you may want to consider theXC90 with the4.4L V-8.
We just put our 2005 XC90 up for sale, see my ad here under Volvo >> Volvo Classifieds >> , anFor Sale / Trade
The heading of my ad isXC90 for sale. We can Private message about the particulars if you're interested.
Also, here is apic someone posted previously with the second row middle seat removed from an XC90 (not ours). From this you can get a better idea of the storage capacity, and even more when thesecond row seatsare laid flat as well. Our second row middle seat is not removed, however.
Good luck on whichever way you decide to go,

If she is older and wants something pretty decent I would look at the V40's
They are pretty good cars also an edit on your post from above. All the S/V 40's from 2000 to early 2004 are Turbo cars.
The S40 didn't get a Non-turbo motor in the U.S. till 2004.5 (New body style)

Oh that's good to know... I was just going off what I saw with the engine and what the ad looked like.
I went to the Volvo dealer and they had some waggons. They had a 2005 Cross Country for 19,590 with 45,000 miles on it. I am going to have to talk to my parents about this. LOL I hardly see them because of work and life so I think it is time to sit down with them and ask what they reallt want.
I will talk to my parents about the CX90. Thanks for the head's up bluemagicbus!

Well we took the Sable to the guy who fixed my car and he fixed it. The plastic fan on the water pump split in three places, and it looked like something got in there and chewed a part of the fan up. When they took it a part, the fan pieces were in the housing. So we replaced the water pump and it is driving. So it looks like we are not getting a new Volvo, but I am trying to convince my mom into getting the new XC60, but I think one of the other cars has to totally die before she will consider it. Thanks for all of the advice!
