Mileage of a Volvo

I am wondering what I can expect from mileage for my 1998 s70 with 162K on it. What is the best case scenario if I take good care of it. What is the worst case scenario. What is the highest mileage anyone has seen on a s70 non turbo? I hope to get at least 200K out of it before going to the grave.

I have 210k on my 1998 non-turbo S70 now, and bet I can get 300k out of the powertrain on mine. I don't accelerate hard normally, and change oil every 5k.
The seats are getting pretty tired, especially the driver's seat, and so are the front windows. I've been looking for some good salvage seats, but they're not so easy to find. I suppose it's a matter of how long you still want to pay the bills to keep it up. I go back and forth with mine *lol*.

I'm really not sure what people mean when they ask about milage??? I think it's more of an age thing than a milage thing. I have seen 850's with over 500,000 miles on them with the same motor. The guy changed oil every 3 to 5 thousand miles. I should mention that the car was only 6 years old. So if you add the miles fast enough you can put 500,000 miles on it easy. But if you put 1,000 miles per month, age will eventually eat away at everything. My guess would be 23 years, not miles. Several years back it was discovered that the average Volvo that went to the bone yard without a wreck was 17 years. That may still be true. The Stealer has stopped supplying some parts already so it may not be long before you can not get parts to fix certain things. A dealer only has to supply parts for 5 years or the distance of the warranty. After that we are at their mercy.
To me, this becomes an issue of the availability of parts & the ability to get the car fixed to your satisfaction for a cost less than it would cost to replace the car. A good example would be if your transmission went out and you only trust the Volvo stealer to repair/replace it, and they want to change you $3,500 to do so. Well, you can get another S70 for $3,000, so that kills the deal. On the other hand, if you are handy or have a beer drinking buddy that is, and you have it done away from a certified mechanic, you can get that tranny problem taken car of for less than $1,000, your car is still on the road. Then you have the factor of small things getting on your nerves. Seats torn, horn sticks, a small oil lean from the drain washer, passenger rear window doesn't work, etc. At some point all the small things will eat away at you and you'll let the car go.
In general, if you are able to keep the interior from deteriating from the sun, keep people, including yourself from banging up the exterior, it can last a long time. I still see good looking '87 240's and 740's on the road and running strong. My estimate is that it cost about $75 per month to keep these cars on the road. You may go several months without paying for a repair but over all I believe $75 is the average.

I got almost 350k on mine, but it's also and '89. It really is the time that has eaten away at it. radio, gone. seats, cracked and ripped. window, cracked. air-bag, exploded on my brother when he turned the car on. Engine, perfect. She sings like a lark. If it wasn't for several practical things that time has taken from her, i'd like to keep her. but as it is, i'm looking to sell it, or enter it into a junk race of derby.

Ive seen plenty with over 200k miles for sale.
Best case-280k to 330k without any major problems(engine, tranny). change fluids on time and car will last along time. will require other repairs tho, but to be expected with anycar.
worst case- engine and tranny are shot at within the next 20k miles. If car was abused, wount see 200k miles on major parts.
My s60 saw 185k miles on the tranny before it was shot.( privious owner never change the fluid. im sure it would of lasted 300k if well maintained..

Has anyone any experience of a Volvo V70 with a high mileage (over 160k miles on the clock)?
are there specific things to look for ? any major services at that interval?
I am working on the principle that these cars are built to run on and on (given a good service history).
I am estimating a 30ish mpg as this is a large car.
I am obviously looking at the cheaper end of the market as this is old (new shape though) and with a high mileage - but it fits the bill for various requirements that I have.
