Unhappy My car's dead. What to do now?

I have a 1999 S80 T6 with 120K miles on it and the transmission died. At this point, the cost of replacing the transmission is higher than the value of the car itself. And, I do not want to spend another $4000 on the transmission (labor+parts) anyway since this car gave me nothing but troubles since day 1.

The car has been sitting in my garage since 10 months now. Obviously the battery's dead. To top it all off - I lost the only key I had. Now, I cannot even sell the car without spending $350 ($100 for towing + $250 for reprogramming at the dealership).

I would appreciate if you guys could throw some suggestions at me on how to deal with the situation. My goal is to get rid of the car is a manner that can give me the most money. Donate and tax write off? Sell it to junk yards? etc. etc. Any dollar amount above $500 would make me happy.

Thank you.

(Not sure if this is the right place to post this issue. Mods, please help me move this thread to an appropriate section.)

Smile dead car

Good Morning,
I don't know what your situation will allow but you might try "parting out" the Volvo. Selling to a yard will probably not get you much,.... but they will love it!
I know that there are qualifiers involved...(home owners assn., spouse, jobs) but sounds like you have alot of great parts to offer, then you can donate what is left! You might try Craigslist etc., my son just sold his Ford Ranger (blown engine) in less than an hour that way!!!
Unfortunately my S90 doesn't share much with your car. Good Luck

Unfortunately parting-out will be a problem with my apartment management. As you guys mentioned, I'm working on putting it on craigslist and see what kind of response I'll get.

I'm willing to consider any other options that can take the car off my hands faster even if I get a couple of hundred dollars less.

I just called a volvo dismantler and his initial quote is between $300 - $700. I have to send him some pics of the car and will negotiate a price.

Still looking at other options...
