Default New Volvo owner--love it, but nervous

Hi all,
I'm a new Volvo owner--just bought a 2009 V70 with 58,000 miles on it. Took it in to the dealer for the 60,000 mile service and an oil leak was found on the brake vac pump (?). Of course, $587.50 later it is repaired.

I love the car. Stylish, very comfortable. A joy to drive! However, coming from Honda I wasn't used to very many expensive repairs. It just seems that 60,000 miles is a bit early to have an oil leak. Is this something I need to get used to? How is reliability?

I make sure my cars are serviced exactly how the manufacturer suggests. I'd like to put many, many miles on this car.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

My newest car is a 2000 S80 T6 Sedan, but I have owned 9 Volvo's since 1992 and I have learned a few things along the way.

First of all, you own a great vehicle with a wonderful engine. Edmunds & KBB gives your car a reliability rating of: '5 of 5' (minimal issues)

Second, I am somewhat confused by the mention of an "oil leak" in regard to the vacuum pump. Does not compute...where would the oil even come from??? The device is an electric motor attached to a vacuum pump.

Anyway, the brake vacuum pump is a $205 item if you buy it yourself online...it looks easy to install, too.

My suggestion for future issues would be to search this website for the problem you are having and see what others are experiencing and have done about the problem. I think you will find that you can repair a great many things on your car that at first seem very technical. There are LOTS of people here that can help you.

Hope this helps.
Greg

That's the wrong vacuum pump.

The one on his car is cam driven and is very, very common to leak.

Thanks, Greg. It's good to know that Volvos are still reliable. I guess I was just a little bummed about the leak after only owning the car for 3 weeks. The good news is that I called the Infiniti dealer from which I made the purchase, and they are going to split the repair bill with me 50/50.
