Odd : petrol tank + computer
Hi all,
after a couple years cheating on Volvo with a land rover (never ever again!) I am back, this time with a V50 1.8, 2005. Very happy with it after3 weeks/1200 miles.
There is however one pretty weird thing I can't put my head around.
From day one, my mpg is very low (around 23/25 at best) and I was like "ok,so be it".
BUT! I eventually realized that somehow this is linked to a dodgy total contenance of the tank.
I know the tank is 55Litres. But when I drive until I am running on fumes (according to the gauge + computer) then brim the tank, i cannot put more than 42 liters!
I did the maths by hand, and my mpg based on 42Litres are consistent with 30/32mpg but somehow, the computer+gauge seems to thing that 42L = 55L. Or, the gauge reads 0 when there is 13L left. Or my tank is actually 42L instead of 55 somehow!
Not sure which is which but what I do know is that I take myfuel i voice, compare it to actual mileage, it's not remotely in line with what the car says. And my max fill to date is 41.95Liters...
Any input on that?

To check for sure the amount of gas the tank holds drive the car until it runs out of fuel. Of course don't do this until you have a good sized gas can with you filled so you can get to a gas station. Fill the tank with the gas can and then get to the nearest gas station to fill the tank completely. This will give you as close as possible to the true litre amount of the tank.
