I have a volvo 740, and the oil light comes on while the engine is idling. It has done this for years, and has been checked and supposedly this is ok. Even the manual says it is ok, as long as the light goes off when I accelerate, which it does.

Lately, I have noticed a rattling sound and a shaking feeling while idling.

Today, while idling, there was a more intense shaking / convulsing feeling, and then the check engine light came on.

Any ideas?

 

What year is the car and engine do you have? Usually shaking means you are missing. You likely have something going on with the ignition system. When was the last time you had a full tune up? Plugs, wires and all?
