I'm a So-Cal resident who owns a 2001 Volvo S60 2.4T. I bought the car with 111k in August of 2013 and now I'm around 122k. I mostly commute from Whittier to Long Beach everyday so that explains the miles. When I originally bought the car, it had 1 previous owner and was well maintained getting roughly 23 miles a gallon. After 2 oil changes, spark plugs, serpentine belt, and some other minor repairs, I now get roughly 17-18 miles a gallon. The car also makes a whistling noise that resonates with the sound of the engine, going up when I accelrate and down when I deccelerate. My mechanic told me that my temperature sensor needs to be changed as well as my Turbo Boost Solenoid. Can these account for poor gas mileage? If not, how can I improve my gas mileage?
