Red face Straight Pipe

I bought my 1999 S70 GLT about 7 mo.s ago. Since then I have spent almost $2,000.00 on a radiator and ETS. Now the catalytic converter is going out. At $1400.00, parts / labor, I was wondering if it would be cheaper to put a straight pipe on it, if it can be done to my car, and is it legal? I have only 1 vehicle, I cannot afford another. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, PKL.

You can get stuff done a lot cheaper. Where are you getting repairs done?

Volvo for ETS. No one up here could read codes. Have mechanic here @ $45.00/HR. Was wondering if aftermarket part would cause problems with OBD's?
