C70 Ragtop a "V5" or "Straight 5??"
Hello,...I was hoping to call on the mechanically inclined folks here...
Can someone tell me if the 01 Volvo C70 Convertible LPT is a "straight 5" or a V5? I know I'm a mechanical idiot,..my goofy logic tells me the V is called such because it is in the form of a V and therefore the cylinders are evenly placed on each side of the V. This logic tells me that the C70 indeed must therefore be a Straight 5 because of having an odd number of cylinders.
I cannot see that far down in the engine bay to see what this is.
Hey,..I'm a cartoonist and artist not a mechanic so excuse my ignorance on this subject.

Hey..........maybe it's a rotary........... A rotary engine is always configured with odd cylinders. The U.S. used rotarys in tanks in WWII...............aircraft engines

Its in no way shape or form a rotary motor. Its an inline 5. How could there possibly even BE a V5? There would need to be an even amount of cylinders to create a V shape.
Though I think an attempt to create such a motor would be a good cartoon, lol.

Ive heard of that... but like you said.. its more of a staggered inline 5 than a V. Something like if someone cut off the Cylinder in a VR6 motor. lol, a VR5.
You could in fact make a V5 or other odd numbered V. The trick would be in balancing the crankshaft. Of course it's just easier to put the same number of cylinders on each side of the crank.
