striped oil pan threads causes oil to leak
Had my 2002 V70, cross country, oil changed at a local shop. they showed me the thread on my oil pan was stripped so for $8 they put in universal plug in the mean time.
On the next scheduled service I went to the dealer and they would not even go near the oil plug. there only suggestion was to replace the oil pan. which would put me out $1,000.00
I was wondering if there was any other suggestion on how else to deal with my situation? can i continue to use a universal drain plug for the next 5+ years we will own the car, do I change the universal plug once a year in order to avoid failure, or do i have other options that are not as costly as what the dealer suggested.

Why would you have to replace the universal plug? Not sure what that is but imagine it's a bigger plug that cut new threads into old hole?
Heli-coil might be an option too but if it isn't installed perfectly it may leak...
If the universal is working w/o leaks then go with that. Or you could get another pan at a junkyard for cheap; install it yourself or take it to a volvo indy shop.
If you're taking your car to the dealer for oil changes you must have $$ to burn... Find a reputable indy shop in your area or DIY.
