i have a 2002 s80 and a very loud and steady noise is coming from the engine compartment. We removed the belt, turned on the car and the noise continued. After a full service on the oil, transmission, gas filter and plugs, the noise continues. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be.

 

Timing belt roller gone bad. Stop running the car and replace the belt and all the rollers in it's path.
