Hello, I am a new member, retired motor vehicle technition I bought a 2010 c30 with an engine fault, turned out to be seized solid. I fitted a new engine and drove around for 4 months, brilliant I thought. Then one night the battery went flat, jumped started and travelled to and from my destination, next morning would not start ,showing immobilizer try again, I tried all the usual methods to no avail. I purchased a Carsoft volvo code reader and it showed 0140, lost communication, I have removed and cleaned the cem and the ignition switch but still not cranking. I fitted new battery and starter. When I first fitted the new engine I got quite a large charge(spark/flash) when connecting the battery ,now its not as powerful, is this any thing to check.

First port of call is the key fob battery as a dead fob can cause the immobiliser warning, you should also attempt to re-program the fob, not sure how it's done on your car but it's normally unlock the car and get the key in the barrel quick and press something, you could also disconnect the battery and hope a reset happens and while we are talking battery if the terminals are dirty or not tight enough it will cause cranking issues and you should check the earth strap at the same time, if it's not that it sounds like either a main engine fuse or a crankshaft sensor.

Also if you live rural Speedy Gonzales likes loom wires so check for gnawing marks.

 

Hi Cruiser, thanks for reply, I have 2 key fobs and they operate door locks and release steering lock so I dont think that is the problem, battery terminals are clean but I will check the crank sensor, thank you for your input. The electrics and also 2 litre diesel engine are same as the ford focus but with software differences, I will check all the fuses and earth straps thanks for your advice.
