Default Buying C30

Hey guys,

On the 27th of this month i should be getting my brand new C30. I've been looking for cars for a good 6 months and the volvo seemed the best and most reliable in its price range.
Its just a standard 1.6 Metallic white with a couple of little extras.
Are there any things in particular that i should look out for ? any commonproblems with these cars ?

cheers
Chris

Default RE: Buying C30

Hello all,

I too will purchase a new C30 within the next month.
My wife and I own a 2000 S70 that has been bulletproof and which we are going to hold on to for a long time.

The C30 will replace a Chevy P'up.

In the end the C30 won out over an Audi A3, as I believe the Volvo will be more reliable.

Inerested in hearing about any C30 problems as well.

Default RE: Buying C30

As a salesperson who's had a few clients out in these for a while, I'm pleased to report very few problems. The only things worth noting:

1) One passenger airbag light malfunctioning after 6,000 miles

2) One catastrophic engine failure after 40,000 miles (never changed the oil)

3) One C30 totalled in a severe side impact, with no serious injury to the occupants.

Change your oil and watch out for crazies, and you should be good. So you know, these cars are mechanical brothers to the S40 T5, a car we've had since halfway through the 04 model year. There were a few annoying glitches with those cars in the first year or two, which were quickly ironed out. Thus, the C30 was pretty well refined even in it's first year out of the gate.

Enjoy!

Bought my first C30 about 2 years ago and basically I'm good with the car. I read up on everything I could online before test driving one...definitely known to be a very safe car. You may see an insurance break from your provider for the safety features. I did with State Farm. Pretty peppy 227 hp 5 cyl motor. 250 with a Polstar tune (but they're pricey). The car handles pretty well, but I don't like low profile tires (looks like your riding in illusion on your rims). Forget about room for the kids in the back seat. Cargo in the hatch is (basically) reasonable. All cars have their issues...front lower control arm bushings on this car go by 60K. Cooling hoses and resevoir soon after (this car runs very hot). One thing I would mention is to be VERY careful messing around with anything electric in this car. The car has a sensor somewhere for everything. Even things that I don't think you need a sensor for, are sensored. If you replace the battery, don't wait till it wont start some morning...AND ALWAYS disconnect the neg. lead FIRST if you remove the battery or want to do anything electric (short of changing a light bulb). And positive lead connects first on reconnect. This car uses the chassis as a voltage circuit conduit and can throw the dreaded SRS air bag module code rather easily if there's any variance... which means you just fried the air bag module...which means that's a dealer $1200 replacement item...unless you DIY and wait for a $120 reset unit from the UK...replacing it yourself (which I chose to do) and it's a hassle to do, believe me! Otherwise it's a pretty damn decent car. And like my '73 1800ES, it's a pretty damn decent looking car too, I'll lastly say.
